Cold air strips lipids faster than any cleanser. Here is how to put them back.
Cold air strips lipids faster than any cleanser. Indoor heating finishes the job. Winter is less about adding richness and more about protecting what is already there.
Why winter skin feels different
Low humidity pulls water out of the skin and the barrier loses lipids trying to keep up. The result is tightness that moisturiser alone does not fix, because the problem is loss rather than lack.
Drop the water temperature before you drop the actives.
Apply moisturiser to damp skin, not dry.
Keep one occlusive step for the coldest nights.
Adjusting, not overhauling
You rarely need a different routine in winter. You need the same routine with slower steps and one richer layer at the end. Overhauling everything in January is how most people end up irritated by February.
Skin does not need a new shelf every season. It needs the same care, applied with more patience.
Come spring, take the occlusive back out. The rest can stay.
